How the Sports Industry Can Change With Lifeline ARM

Published on 8th January 2018

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) affects athletes from all walks of sport. The preconception that SCA only happens to the elderly or the unhealthy is far from the real scenario. Unfortunately, there are many cases every year of SCA in children & athletes – and if fast medical action isn’t taken, it can result in fatal devastating circumstances

Thousands of athletes suffer from underlying heart conditions associated with SCA. Often, these conditions are unbeknownst to the victim and be triggered at any time. Even more so, during physical activity. Every week athletes are put under a higher risk of suffering from SCA, yet, unfortunately most sporting clubs do not have the necessary equipment on-site to save lives.

During a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, a person’s heart goes into a life threatening rhythm and stops blood pumping around their body and to their brain. CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) involves giving a combination of chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth ‘rescue breaths’, keeping blood flowing to the vital organs and maintaining a heart rhythm that will react to defibrillation.

Fabrice Muamba Story

In 2012, Fabrice Muamba, a professional football player collapsed on live television in a match between Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur. His heart stopped pumping oxygenated blood around his body and his heart stopped completely for 78 minutes. If it wasn’t for the medical staff and a CPR & AED Device, he wouldn’t be alive.

People suffer what I did on a daily basis but… most don’t make it because nobody knows how to help them”…..“The guy who collapses in the supermarket should have the same chance I did”.

Lifeline ARM

Martek Lifecare is proud to be the sole distributor of the LifeLine ARM & Lifeline AED range. A revolutionary autonomous CPR device designed to save lives and allow rescuers to treat patients ‘Hands-Free’ allowing them to focus on other life-threating tasks and the innovative industry leading Automated External Defibrillator range, the world’s simplest and most modern AED range on the market.

We believe the Lineline ARM is helping revolutionise the sporting world incomprehensively. The Lifeline Arm is the industry leader, providing the world’s simplest and most modern autonomous CPR device. Unlike its competitors, the Lifeline ARM has an unrivalled operation time of up to 60 minutes continual CPR, increasing the chance of a victims survival drastically.

The quality of CPR a patient receives can be the difference between life and death. Compressing the chest to the right depth, at the right rate, without interruption, while allowing it to fully recoil all increase the chance of survival. Now, imagine doing all this whilst in a moving vehicle?

Often in situations of prolonged CPR, chest compressions are often too shallow and ‘hands-off’ time is too long. The Lifeline ARM never tires out, it provides continuous CPR at a guaranteed safe and regular depth and compressions that ensure the best chance of survival for the patient, making CPR easy, simple and reliable every single time.

The Lifeline ARM enables rescuers to remain hands-free during treatment and allows them to focus on other life-saving tasks. Once on the move, the ARM travels with the patient to allow for continuous effect CPR until arrive at the necessary medical assessment unit. Even healthcare professionals have difficulty performing effective CPR, especially in a moving vehicle.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest

With just 8% of patients surviving a Sudden Cardiac Arrest on average in the UK. Sports clubs need to start investing in CPR and AED Devices and helping protect and save lives.

Aside from direct injuries, the most common death in young sportspeople is a variation of a cardiac event, in the majority of cases, early defibrillation and CPR would have saved their lives.

The average ambulance response time in the UK is 11 minutes. For optimal rates individuals suffering from SCA must has access to a defibrillator & received CPR within 3 minutes. Is this risk worth taking? Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces survival chances by 20%.

No matter what sport, contact or not, a story can unfortunately be told where a person has unnecessarily died of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest as an AED or CPR Device was not close to hand.

Here at Martek, we believe that everybody should have access to a CPR & AED device.
